1. Agreement

By accessing or using riqai.com.ng ("RIQ AI", "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms incorporate by reference:

• Our Cookie Policy
• Our Refund Policy

2. The Service

RIQ AI provides Eva, an AI-powered academic assistant. Eva answers questions from curated knowledge sources: you submit a question, Eva retrieves relevant information, and generates a response with citations.

Free tier: Anonymous access with 5 free queries per month. Signed-in users get 10 free questions in their first month, then 5 free questions each month after. No payment required.

Paid tier: After signing up via Clerk (using Google, email + username, or another supported method), you may purchase token packages. Each message consumes 1 token. Your token balance is viewable from your account dashboard.

Fair-use limits: We rate-limit queries to keep the service available for all users. Excessive automated access (scraping, bots, scripted queries) is prohibited and may result in blocking.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use RIQ AI. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

4. Accounts

Free / Anonymous Users: No account or sign-up is required. You are responsible for your own content and compliance with these Terms each session.

Paid / Authenticated Users: You sign in via Clerk (using Google, email + username, or other supported methods). You are responsible for maintaining the security of your chosen sign-in method and must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account. You agree to provide accurate information during registration. RIQ AI does not see or store your password or sign-in credentials - Clerk manages them.

5. Acceptable Use

Prohibited Content

You may not submit:

• Content that is illegal under applicable laws.
• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or content exploiting minors.
• Content that infringes intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights of others.
• Content that promotes violence, harassment, or hate speech.

Prohibited Behaviors

You may not:

• Scrape, crawl, or automate access beyond normal browser use.
• Attempt to bypass quotas, rate limits, or security controls.
• Gain unauthorized access to the Service, including by circumventing controls, keywords, or workloads, or by impersonating another user.
• Use the Service for high-risk automated decisions affecting individuals (e.g. admissions, hiring, insurance).
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute token packages or access to third parties without written permission.

Enforcement

We reserve the right to investigate, block IP addresses or sessions, suspend or terminate accounts, and take legal action where warranted.

6. Your Content

Submitted prompts: You retain ownership of any text, URLs, or content you submit as a prompt. You grant RIQ AI a limited, non-exclusive license to process that content solely to:

• Retrieve relevant knowledge sources
• Construct the prompt sent to the AI provider
• Generate a response and return the result
• Store the exchange as part of your chat history (last 50 messages)

Storage: Your prompts and responses are stored as chat history (the most recent 50 messages per user) so you can review past conversations and we can identify knowledge gaps and detect abuse. You may clear your chat history from your account at any time. We do not use your prompts to train AI models.

Warranty: You warrant that you have the right to submit your content and that doing so does not violate any third-party rights.

7. Generated Output

Ownership: You own the AI-generated output you receive and may use it for any lawful purpose, including commercial use.

AI caveats: You are responsible for:

• Verifying accuracy of generated content, including possible artifacts, hallucinated information, or misleading responses.
• Ensuring output doesn't infringe third-party trademarks, copyrights, or publicity rights.
• Complying with terms associated with any referenced sources.

Copyright note: AI-generated content may not qualify for copyright protection in all jurisdictions. If copyright is critical to your use case, consult a lawyer.

8. AI Disclaimer

The Service uses probabilistic AI models to generate responses. Output may contain inaccuracies, artifacts, misquoted text, or unexpected results. The Service is a creative / informational tool, not a source of absolute fact. Users should verify AI-generated information before relying on it.

RIQ AI is not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated output.

9. Third-Party Services

RIQ AI depends on the following services:

By using RIQ AI, you also agree to the terms and policies of these providers where they have a direct relationship with you (e.g., Clerk for authentication, Paystack for payments).

10. Free Service / Paid Tiers

Free tier: Provided free of charge on a best-effort basis. No guarantee of uninterrupted operation. We may rate-limit, suspend, or discontinue free features without prior notice. No SLA applies.

Paid tier: Token purchases are billed at the price shown at checkout and are final and non-refundable once credited. Tokens are non-expiring. We reserve the right to change token pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing balances are not affected by price changes.

11. Intellectual Property

RIQ AI and its licensors own:

• The name "RIQ AI", the logo, and all branding.
• The application source code, UI design, and custom knowledge bases.
• Any curated content and system documentation.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer RIQ AI's intellectual property without permission.

Your submitted content and generated output remain yours - nothing in these Terms assigns your content to us.

12. Termination

• Account deletion: You may delete your account by contacting us. Any remaining token balance is non-refundable (see our Refund Policy).
• We may terminate or suspend: Accounts or access for violating Section 5 (Acceptable Use), fraud, or payment abuse.
• Survival: Section 13 (Disclaimer of Warranties), Section 14 (Limitation of Liability), Section 15 (Indemnity), and Section 16 (Governing Law & Venue) survive termination.

For anonymous users context: blocking via IP addresses/session cookies replaces formal termination. Free-tier abuse may result in permanent blocking.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

RIQ AI DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, APPROPRIATE, OR FREE OF INFRINGING CONTENT.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• RIQ AI is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
• Total liability is capped at the greater of: (a) the total amount paid by you to RIQ AI in the 6 months before the claim, or (b) ₦50,000 (fifty thousand Naira).
• For free-tier users: liability is capped at ₦50,000.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the above limitations may not apply to you.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify RIQ AI against claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

• Your submitted content
• Your usage of generated output
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of third-party rights or applicable law

16. Governing Law & Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be brought exclusively in accordance with the laws of the Federation, under the jurisdiction of Nigerian courts.

17. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted with a new "Last updated" date. Your continued use of RIQ AI after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For significant changes, we will notify account-holding users by email.
